The father of 10-year-old Kim Ha-neul, who was killed by a female teacher in her 40s at a school in Daejeon, appealed to the political sector on the 12th to prepare measures to prevent recurrence.
Ha-neul's father met with reporters at the funeral home at Daejeon Konyang University Hospital on the 12th and said, "What I hope for is that such an incident does not happen again to our Ha-neul in the future," and added, "If you are watching, I ask that the leaders of both parties come to the funeral home to meet Ha-neul and listen to my story."
Ha-neul's father is advocating for the establishment of the so-called 'Ha-neul Act' to ensure that teachers suffering from mental illness receive treatment and to provide collateral for the safety of young students going home. Kim Ha-neul was stabbed to death by a female teacher in her 40s suffering from depression, among other issues, on the 10th at school.
He went on to say, "I don't know much about politics, but I ask those who are doing the nation's work to help Ha-neul," and urged, "I ask many citizens to pray so that Ha-neul can happily run around in heaven."
Meanwhile, voices are being raised in the political sector about the need to prepare measures to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
Kim Seong-hoon, the policy chief of the People Power Party, said at a party strategy meeting on the morning of the same day, "As the ruling party responsible for the safety of the people, I feel a deep sense of responsibility," and added, "We will swiftly hold a party-government consultation to prepare measures to prevent recurrence."
