Lee Ju-ho, the Deputy Prime Minister for Social Affairs and Minister of Education, noted on the 11th at an elementary school in Daejeon regarding the incident where a first grader was killed by a weapon wielded by a teacher, "I will quickly announce measures to ensure our students can learn and live in a safe environment."
The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his deep condolences regarding the student death incident that occurred yesterday in Daejeon, saying, "I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families who must be in great shock and pain due to this incident."
The Deputy Prime Minister is discussing emergency meetings and measures, having canceled most of his key schedules, including speeches to the National Assembly negotiating groups, due to this incident.
According to the Ministry of Education, the Deputy Prime Minister shared the situation with the Daejeon Education Superintendent in the morning and will hold an emergency council on the 12th with the attendance of 17 city and provincial education superintendents to discuss response measures.
Meanwhile, on the 10th, an incident occurred at an elementary school in Daejeon where a female teacher in her 40s stabbed and killed an 8-year-old female student with a weapon. The student was transferred to the hospital in an unconscious state but passed away.
