A 40-year-old female teacher fatally stabbed an 8-year-old female student with a knife at an elementary school in Daejeon.
According to the Daejeon police and fire authorities, at around 6 p.m. on the 10th, first grader A was discovered in the audiovisual room on the second floor of the elementary school in Gwanjeo-dong, Daejeon, along with teacher B.
Paramedics transported the unconscious first grader A to the hospital, but she died.
Teacher B, who was injured in the neck and arms by the knife, is currently receiving treatment at the hospital and is in a conscious state. The police believe that B harmed herself after the crime and are investigating her as a suspect.
It is reported that teacher B confessed to the police before undergoing surgery at around 9 p.m., saying, "I wielded the knife." The police determined that the teacher had taken a leave of absence due to issues such as depression and returned to work at the end of last year.
Earlier that day, at around 5:18 p.m., parents reported to the police after receiving a message that their child had not arrived at the art academy, and the school reported to the police around 5:50 p.m. that someone was trapped in the audiovisual room on the second floor of the building. The police arrived at the school and discovered the two people collapsed in the audiovisual room.
Currently, teacher B has undergone surgery, and the police investigation has been temporarily suspended. The police plan to investigate the exact motive and circumstances of the crime against teacher B as soon as she recovers her health.
