A wind warning and blizzard have disrupted flight operations in Jeju Island.
According to Korea Airport Service, as of 1 p.m. on the 7th, 51 domestic flights departing from Jeju to other regions were canceled. Six international departures and arrivals were also canceled.
Jeju Island is currently under a wind warning and a rapid wind warning, with blizzards occasionally sweeping through, making takeoffs virtually impossible.
Korean Air canceled all 23 flights departing from Jeju from 10 a.m. to 6:35 p.m. on that day. A representative from Korean Air noted, "There is a high possibility of cancellations for flights after 6 p.m."
At Jeju Airport, 187 domestic departures and arrivals were scheduled for the day. So far, only 39 domestic flights have departed, and 40 have arrived.
Meanwhile, it is estimated that about 15,000 people have been stranded in Jeju. The airport service and Jeju Island have activated the 'alert' level for supporting those stranded and have begun operating a response team.
