Park Hyun-soo, head of the Ministry of Interior and Safety's Police Bureau, was appointed as acting head of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency on the 7th.
The Korean National Police Agency announced personnel changes on that day. It is expected that Park will officially assume the role of head of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency once the promotion process to senior superintendent is completed.
The position of head of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency is currently vacant due to the arrest and indictment of former head Kim Bong-sik on charges related to a significant national security mission. After Kim was dismissed from his position on Dec. 27 last year, Choi Hyun-seok, the acting head of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, was appointed as the head of the National Police Academy.
Park, who was born in Daejeon, graduated from the Police Academy (10th class) and was promoted to senior superintendent after serving as the head of student affairs at the Police Academy and the planning officer for public relations at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency. After serving as the police attache at the South Korean Embassy in the United Kingdom during the Moon Jae-in administration, he held positions as head of the Gwangjin Police Station in Seoul and head of the crisis management center at the Korean National Police Agency. Under the Yoon Suk-yeol administration, he was appointed to key positions such as the personnel verification team of the Presidential Transition Committee and the National Security Office of the Presidential Office, and later as head of the Police Information Bureau of the Korean National Police Agency and head of the Police Bureau of the Ministry of Interior and Safety.
The Korean National Police Agency also announced the transfers of six superintendents, including three who were promoted on the 5th. Park Jong-seop, who was dispatched to the Office for Government Policy Coordination, was promoted to superintendent and transferred to the position of the chief of the Safety Division of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency. Nam Je-hyun, who was dispatched to the National Security Office of the Presidential Office, was promoted to superintendent and moved to the position of head of the Police Bureau of the Ministry of Interior and Safety. Jo Jeong-rae, senior inspector of the Police Information Bureau of the Korean National Police Agency, was transferred to the position of deputy chief of public safety at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, Kim Cheol-mun, head of the North Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Police Agency, to the head of the North Jeolla Provincial Police Agency, and Oh Boo-myeong, deputy chief of public safety at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, to the head of the North Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Police Agency.
