Dahye, the daughter of former President Moon Jae-in, was indicted on the 5th for driving under the influence and operating an illegal lodging business.
The Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office Criminal Division 2 (Director General Choo Hye-yoon) stated that Dahye was indicted without detention on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act and the Public Health Control Act. The prosecution noted, "Considering that the defendant caused a traffic accident while driving under the influence, the long duration of her unreported lodging business operations, and the substantial revenue she garnered from it, we took these factors into account."
Dahye is suspected of changing lanes while intoxicated and colliding with a taxi that was following her in front of the Hamilton Hotel in Itaewon, Yongsan-gu, on October 5th of last year. It is known that her blood alcohol concentration at the time of the accident exceeded the license suspension threshold of 0.08%, registering at 0.149%.
However, regarding the drinking and driving incident, the charges of dangerous driving resulting in injury, which carry heavier penalties under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes, were not applied. Initially, the police attempted to apply the dangerous driving resulting in injury charge, but it was reported that the taxi driver, who reached an agreement with Dahye's side, did not issue medical certificates to prove the injury. The prosecution stated, "There was a police decision not to forward the case, and it is difficult to see the charges as being substantiated."
Dahye is also facing charges of operating illegal lodging businesses in an officetel in Yeongdeungpo-gu, a villa in Yangpyeong-dong, and a detached house in Hyeopjae-ri, Hallim-eup, Jeju City. Under the Public Health Control Act, one must report to the relevant district office to operate as a lodging business, but it was revealed that she had been operating without such notification. The illegal lodging business case was investigated by the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office and the Jeju District Prosecutors' Office before being transferred to the Western District Prosecutors' Office.
