Kwon Tae-seon, chairperson of the Korea Broadcasting Culture Promotion Association (KBPPA), commented on the workplace bullying death of MBC weathercaster Oh Yo-an. KBPPA is the largest shareholder of MBC.
According to the broadcasting industry on the 5th, Kwon stated in a position paper posted on the KBPPA website on the 4th, "I was shocked to encounter reports related to the (Oh weathercaster) during the Seollal holiday period," and expressed hope that an investigation would be conducted fairly and quickly reveal the truth.
He added, "I will work to find measures to ensure that such unfortunate incidents do not occur again," and that he would demand that the overall working conditions of freelancers, including weathercasters, be reviewed and improved.
Oh joined MBC in 2021 and passed away in September of last year. About three months after her death, a letter from Oh became public on the 27th of last month, raising allegations that she had suffered from workplace bullying.
Oh's family has filed a lawsuit seeking damages against MBC employees in the Seoul Central District Court.
