On Jan. 1, a man in his 20s who broke the court windows and glass during the 'Seoul Western District Court violent incident' in response to the issuance of an arrest warrant for President Yoon Seok-yeol, and a man in his 30s who assaulted a broadcaster journalist, has been detained.
According to the court on the 5th, Director General Jang Seong-hak of the Seoul Western District Court issued arrest warrants on the 4th for a man in his 20s, referred to as A, who is suspected of violating the Act on the Punishment of Violent Acts, and a man in his 30s, referred to as B, who is suspected of robbery and joint burglary. The court explained the reason for their detention, stating that "there is a concern of escape."
A is accused of invading the Western District Court and damaging property on the morning of the 19th when President Yoon was detained. A was identified as a man wearing a green jumper in a video recorded at the time. The video captured him breaking the glass of the court's duty room and spraying a fire extinguisher at the police. B is accused of assaulting a broadcaster journalist and stealing recording equipment during the Western District Court incident.
As of this day, the number of people detained for the illegal activities that occurred around the Western District Court on the 18th and 19th of last month has increased to 65. The police reported that they transferred 62 of the suspects detained the previous day to the prosecution. The prosecution is continuing its investigation by extending the detention period for the 58 people who were previously transferred on the 23rd and 24th of last month.
