At around 11:20 a.m. on the 27th, an 11-vehicle collision occurred near Wonju IC on the Yeongdong Expressway heading toward Gangneung in Gahyeon-dong, Wonju, Gangwon Province.
As a result of the incident, more than 10 individuals, including the driver of the passenger car and bus passengers (2 seriously injured, 8 lightly injured), were transported to the hospital. Police are investigating the precise circumstances, including whether the accident was caused by icy road conditions.
Due to the accident cleanup, traffic on that section has been fully blocked, causing severe traffic congestion in the area.
The city of Wonju noted through disaster safety messages, "Traffic is blocked 2 km in front of Wonju IC on the Yeongdong Expressway heading toward Gangneung due to an accident, so please detour via the Munmak IC to the national road."
