Jang Won-young of the popular girl group IVE has won part of her damages lawsuit against the YouTuber "Daldok Su-yong-so."
The Seoul Central District Court Civil Appeal Division 9-3, presided over by Director General Yoon Jae-nam, Seon Ui-jong, and Jeong Deok-soo, ruled on the 22nd that Jang Won-young should receive 50 million won from Park, the operator of the YouTube channel "Daldok Su-yong-so."
Previously, the court had ordered the YouTuber to pay 100 million won in the first trial, but the amount was halved in the appeal.
Jang Won-young filed a lawsuit against Park in October 2023, claiming that "Daldok Su-yong-so" had been continuously spreading false information that tarnished her reputation. The YouTube channel has been producing videos based on malicious rumors about idols. The music industry has been calling for strict punishment against the channel's operator. The channel has since been deleted.
Separately from Jang Won-young, her agency Starship Entertainment is currently in the first trial of a damages lawsuit filed against Park. Additionally, Park has been indicted on charges of defamation against Jang Won-young. In that trial, Park received a sentence of two years in prison with a three-year probation in the first trial. The prosecution has appealed, and the second trial is ongoing.
