A multi-vehicle collision involving a total of 44 vehicles, including trucks, buses, and passenger cars, occurred on the morning of the 14th on the Free Road in Ilsanseo-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi Province. In this incident, drivers sustained minor abrasions, and one 16-ton truck driver was injured and transported to the hospital.
According to the Northern Gyeonggi Provincial Fire and Disaster Headquarters, a chain multi-collision accident occurred around 5:15 a.m. on the 14th near the Gusan IC in the direction of Paju on the Free Road in Ilsanseo-gu, Goyang. The fire authorities reported that there were four cases of a six-vehicle collision, one case of a three-vehicle collision, six cases of a two-vehicle collision, and five single-vehicle accidents. As a result, severe traffic congestion has ensued during the morning commute.
Police and fire authorities have completely closed the road from Gusan IC to Isanpo IC for accident recovery and are conducting cleanup operations. Additionally, calcium chloride was spread in sections of the road that were icy. Consequently, traffic congestion has formed about 10 kilometers behind the accident site. Police are rerouting following vehicles from Isanpo IC to alternate routes.
The police reported that a fourth-vehicle collision and subsequent three-vehicle collisions occurred due to road icing, and they are investigating the specific circumstances of the accidents.
