The Ministry of the Interior and Safety said on the 12th that it will conduct special inspections on elevators at 18 major train stations ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday.

The special inspections will take place from the 13th to the 24th. A total of 515 elevators at the 18 stations are subject to inspection.

The government plans to focus on verifying the operational status of elevator safety devices during the special inspections. Any non-compliance identified in the inspection will be addressed before the Lunar New Year holiday.

Additionally, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, including the Lunar New Year holiday, will operate a situation response team in cooperation with the Korea Elevator Safety Agency from January 25th to February 2nd to prepare for elevator accidents. This aims to ensure a prompt response in the event of an elevator accident.

Kim Yong-kyun, head of the Safety Prevention Policy Office at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, said, “As many citizens will use elevators during the Lunar New Year holiday, we will conduct thorough safety inspections to prevent elevator safety accidents.”
