The Ministry of the Interior and Safety noted on the 10th that if the annual motor vehicle taxes are paid in one lump sum this year, a 5% discount would be given. This follows the approval of a local government tax amendment containing this provision at the Cabinet meeting at the end of last year.
Earlier, the government also provided a 5% discount for those who paid the annual motor vehicle taxes in one go last year. The government imposes motor vehicle taxes in two installments in June and December, but if paid in a single amount in January, it reduces part of the tax amount.
Applications for annual payment of motor vehicle taxes can be made not only in January but also in March, June, and September. The reporting and payment period is from the 16th to the end of the month. This can be done by visiting the relevant city, county, or district office, or through the WiTax website. In Seoul, this can also be done through the iTax.
Han Soon-ki, director of the local government finance department at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, said, "We maintained the 5% deduction rate for this year's annual motor vehicle taxes to help ease the financial burden on households by slightly reducing the tax burden on vehicles closely related to the lives of the people."
