The Korea meteorological Administration announced on the 7th that a heavy snow advisory has been issued for parts of Jeonbuk, Chungcheong, and Jeju. A heavy snow advisory is issued when more than 5 cm of snow is expected to accumulate within 24 hours. In Jeonbuk and Chungcheong, snow accumulation of up to 40 cm and 20 cm, respectively, is expected from today until the 9th.

On the Korean Peninsula, cold winds from the northwest have passed over the warm West Sea, forming snow clouds. These snow clouds are currently lingering in the Jeolla region and will gradually move. On the morning of the 8th, snowfall of 1-3 cm per hour is expected in the Chungnam and Jeolla regions, and from the night of the 8th to the 9th, 3-5 cm per hour of heavy snow is anticipated. The Korea meteorological Administration advised, “Pay attention to damage to facilities and prepare winter equipment when using vehicles.”

Over three days (7th to 9th), snow accumulation is expected to reach 40 cm in the southern inland areas of Jeonbuk, 30 cm on the west coast of Jeonbuk, and 10-30 cm in Jeonbuk, Ulleungdo, Dokdo, and the mountainous areas of Jeju. Other expected snow accumulations are 20 cm for the southern west coast of Chungnam, Gwangju, and northern Jeonnam; 5-15 cm for Chungnam, Gwangju, and Jeonnam; 3-8 cm for Daejeon, Sejong, southern central Chungbuk, and western inland Gyeongnam; and 1 cm for southwestern Gyeonggi, Daegu, inland Gyeongbuk, and the coasts of Jeju.

The strongest cold wave of this winter will also continue. Morning lows will drop from minus 13 to 2 degrees Celsius on the 8th and plunge further to minus 17 to minus 3 degrees on the 9th. Daytime highs are forecast to fall from minus 4 to 8 degrees on the 8th to minus 8 to 3 degrees on the 9th.
