The runway at Muan Airport in Jeollanam-do, where the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster occurred, will remain closed until the early morning of the 14th. The closure has been extended by a week from the previous schedule.
According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea Airports Corporation as of the 6th, Muan Airport's runway will be closed until 5 a.m. on the 14th. Previously, the runway was temporarily closed from the day of the accident on the 29th of last month until the morning of the 1st of this month, and the closure period was once extended until the morning of the 7th.
Authorities appear to have extended the closure period to preserve the site, as a joint South Korea-U.S. investigation team continues to investigate the cause of the accident. The recovery of victims and the search for personal belongings were completed the day before. However, debris such as the wing and tail sections of the wreckage remain at the site. There are also observations that it may take several months to reopen after repairing airport facilities damaged in the accident, such as the localizer.
