On the last day the High-Ranking Officials Investigation Department (Gongsoocheo) can execute an arrest warrant against President Yoon Suk-yeol, more than 500 protesters calling for Yoon's resignation and supporters of the president spent the night on the road in front of the president's residence in Hannam-dong, Yongsan District, Seoul on the 6th. Several members of the People Power Party, who intend to prevent Yoon's arrest, also appeared early in the morning. The arrest warrant expires at midnight.
The "Korea Restoration Movement Headquarters" and "New Freedom Solidarity," led by Pastor Jun Kwang-hoon of Sarang Jeil Church and the Liberty Unification Party, held an all-night rally between the International Lutheran Church and Hangangjin Station on Subway Line 6, near the president's residence.
Around 6 a.m. that day, about 500 supporters of President Yoon gathered. Pastor Jun, holding a microphone, shouted, "It's not a crime for us to confront the Minno Party physically. Are you confident, everyone?" The host led the crowd in chanting "Jun Kwang-hoon," "Jun Kwang-hoon." The host also declared, "Choi Sang-mok, who appointed Constitutional Court judges, should repent."
Most of the rally participants appeared to be in their 60s or older, with one or two out of 10 in their 20s or 30s. Kim Min-seong, 59, said, "I slept briefly on cardboard boxes leaning against the building wall," adding, "I'm glad it wasn’t as cold as expected. I brought Tylenol." Kim Sang-ji, 63, said, "Four of my friends rented a room at a motel near Yaksu Station and arrived here around 5 a.m. If Gongsoocheo executes the arrest warrant, we will block it bodily. The police won't be able to stop us."
Around 30 members of the People Power Party, including lawmakers Kim Gi-hyeon and Yoon Sang-hyun, gathered near the location where Yoon supporters were holding a rally early that morning. Kim told reporters, "People Power Party members think that the arrest warrant, which is fundamentally null, must be stopped," adding, "The impeachment is fundamentally null and void. We will fight to prevent fraudulent impeachment."
Some members of the People Power Party moved to the president's residence, but it is unknown whether they met with President Yoon. As of 8 a.m., they were gathered in front of the main gate of the residence.
"Emergency Action for Yoon Suk-yeol's Immediate Resignation and Social Reform," a coalition of Minjoo Party and other civic groups, has continued overnight rallies since the arrest warrant against President Yoon was not executed on the 3rd. Around 6 a.m. on this day, about 50 people endured the long night, covering themselves with thermal blankets on the road near Hannam Elementary School. Nine tents were also set up.
Yoon Nam-sook, 58, said, "I borrowed a tent from my son and set it up around 8 p.m. last night," adding, "Gongsoocheo must do its job correctly. No matter what anyone says, President Yoon is an instigator of rebellion, and it's right to remove Yoon."
On the ten-lane Hannam Road, three lanes on the inbound section near the residence and one lane on the outbound section are closed due to the rally. According to the Seoul Traffic Information Center (TOPIS), as of 7:40 a.m. that day, the inbound traffic was crawling at about 10 km/h, while the outbound was at about 22 km/h. The city of Seoul has rerouted some city buses around this section.
