Police are focusing investigative efforts on malicious posts related to the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster.

The Korean National Police Agency's National Investigation Headquarters said on the 5th that as of 5 p.m. on the 4th, it has launched a preliminary investigation into 99 malicious posts directed at disaster victims and their families.

South Jeolla Provincial Police Agency's Cyber Crime Investigation Unit apprehended a man in his 30s, identified as Mr. A, the previous day on charges of defamation for posting slanderous comments about compensation for the disaster victims' families.

The police said, "Posting malicious cyber content and videos related to the disaster is a serious criminal act," and urged, "Please refrain from spreading rumors and posting malicious content so that victim families no longer suffer."
