Two members of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions were arrested on charges of assaulting police officers near the presidential residence in Hannam-dong, Yongsan District, Seoul, on the 4th, as they urged the execution of an arrest warrant for President Yoon Suk-yeol. The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions demanded their release, calling it an illegal arrest.
According to the police and the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul arrested two members of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions as flagrant offenders that day. They are accused of assaulting the police who were trying to stop them as they marched toward the presidential residence.
Around noon that day, the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions attempted to march towards the presidential residence in Hannam-dong but were blocked by police personnel and barricades. In the process, a scuffle broke out between the members attempting to continue the march and the police.
Following the arrest of the members, the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions issued a statement asserting that the violent arrest of their members by the police was an act of collusion in rebellion, shielding Yoon Suk-yeol as a rebel. They demanded the immediate release of the illegally arrested members and called for an end to violence against the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions. They continued, “We will surely put an end to the fight to arrest and detain Yoon Suk-yeol and those who side with him.”
The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions has been holding a two-day and one-night rally, “Emergency Action Urging the Arrest of Yoon Suk-yeol,” organized by “Emergency Action for Immediate Resignation of Yoon Suk-yeol and Comprehensive Social Reform,” near the presidential residence since the night before.
