Director Park Jong-jun of the Presidential Security Service, who prevented the execution of an arrest warrant for President Yoon Suk-yeol by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO), has been reported by a civil society organization.
The “Emergency Action for Immediate Resignation of Yoon Suk-yeol and Social Revolution” held a press conference in front of the Korean National Police Agency in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, at 1 p.m. on the 3rd. They announced that Minister Park, Vice Minister of the Presidential Security Service, and others were reported to the National Investigation Headquarters for charges including obstruction of special official duties. Security service staff and soldiers from the Capital Defense Command were also included as subjects of the report.
The Emergency Action noted, “The Security Service is obstructing the execution of the arrest warrant procedure that has been ongoing since the morning” and stated, “This constitutes a crime that can be punished for abuse of authority and obstruction of special official duties for blocking lawful warrant execution.”
The CIO stated in the afternoon that “due to continued standoffs, it was deemed practically impossible to execute the arrest warrant” and announced the suspension of the execution around 1:30 p.m. They added, “Further actions will be decided after review,” expressing “serious regret at the suspect's attitude of not complying with the legal procedure.” The validity period of the arrest warrant is until the 6th.
