Police investigation into malicious online posts concerning the Jeju Air disaster victims and their families has expanded.

According to the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency, as of 8 p.m. yesterday, Jeonnam police have applied for search and seizure warrants for six posts. Of these, three have been issued, and a forced investigation is underway. Additionally, nationwide, there are 64 cases under preliminary investigation for defamation and insult without charges being filed.

The dedicated investigation team, previously operated by the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency with a staff of 25, has expanded to a national scale. The police have formed a task force of 118 members by incorporating cyber investigation units from 16 regional police agencies nationwide, under the direction of the Director General of the Criminal Investigation Bureau.

A police official said they will conduct a strict investigation into malicious crimes targeting bereaved families, identify suspects, and actively consider taking them into custody.
