Police reportedly requested the commander of the 55th Guard Battalion, affiliated with the Army's Capital Defense Command, to appear as a witness on the 3rd regarding the security mission at President Yoon Suk-yeol's residence.

The 55th Guard Battalion was identified as the unit deployed on the same day to prevent the execution of an arrest warrant by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials against President Yoon at the Hannam-dong residence. However, the Presidential Security Service denies such claims.

The special investigation team of the National Investigation Headquarters, investigating the Dec. 3 martial law crisis, plans to examine the troop utilization situation at the time of the arrest warrant execution against the 55th Guard Battalion commander.

The 55th Guard Battalion is responsible for the external security of the presidential residence and is attached to the Presidential Security Service, with the authority for command and control under the Presidential Security Service according to the Presidential Security Act and other regulations.

The special investigation team has booked Park Jong-jun, the Director of the Presidential Security Service, and Kim Sung-hoon, the Vice Minister, on charges of obstructing the execution of official duties concerning the Corruption Investigation Office's arrest warrant, summoning them to appear on the 4th.

The Joint Investigation Headquarters and the Presidential Security Service are engaged in a dispute over the truth.

Officials from the Corruption Investigation Office and police involved in the execution of arrest warrants reported that after entering the residence, they faced off with a military unit believed to be the 55th Guard Battalion for some time.

According to multiple sources, ordinary soldiers were also seen among them.

The Presidential Security Service immediately refuted through a press notice, claiming that the deployment of the 55th Guard Battalion is not true.

The Presidential Security Service stated, 'While soldiers typically operate in the residence area, which is a military protection facility, they were replaced with security service staff in anticipation of an intensified standoff upon the Corruption Investigation Office's arrival, and soldiers were reassigned to rear duties.'
