As the Jeju Air plane disaster occurred, a training video, simulating a similar situation from one year ago, is being revisited.

According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's YouTube 'Safe Korea Training,' a video titled '2023 Safe Korea Training (Muan County)' was uploaded on Dec. 12. The video depicts a training session assuming an accident situation where a Sky Airlines B737 flight 123 deviated from the runway and collided with a building's outer wall, causing a fire, at Muan Airport in Mangun-myeon around 3 p.m. Oct. 26, 2023, due to landing gear malfunction during landing.

In this disaster, it is presumed that all three landing gears (airplane wheels) failed to operate, which is being cited as the main cause of the accident. On the day following the disaster, on the 30th, another Jeju Air plane of the same model encountered a landing gear issue and had to return.

There is criticism that the azimuth facility (localizer) installed at Muan International Airport and the protruding concrete structure (mound) that supports it exacerbated the disaster, as there are many similarities with the video. The Boeing 737 model assumed in the training scenario is also the same model involved in the accident.

Those who watched the video commented, 'An almost identical accident occurred at Muan Airport,' 'Isn't this a foreseen disaster?' and 'An eerie replica.'

Earlier, around 9:05 a.m. on the 29th, a Jeju Air flight 7C2216 from Bangkok, Thailand, attempted to land at Muan International Airport with the landing gear not deployed, collided with airport facilities, and a large part of the aircraft was engulfed in flames. The accident resulted in the death of 179 passengers, except for two crew members. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is investigating the exact cause of the accident by securing the flight data recorder and voice recorder.
