Kwon Sung-dong, acting leader and floor leader of the People Power Party, told the families of the victims of the Jeju Air passenger aircraft accident on the 30th, “I do not know what words of comfort to offer,” and added, “I pray for the repose of the deceased victims and extend my deepest condolences to the families.
Acting Leader Kwon visited Muan Airport around 10:16 a.m. and met with the bereaved families, saying, “A truly tragic and unimaginable event has occurred. We will do our utmost to heal your hearts to the best of our ability,” he noted.
He continued, “We will ensure that the deceased are given proper funerals,” and added, “We will do our best to fulfill our roles during the national mourning period to manage the situation.” He also said, “Once again, I pray for the repose of the victims and extend deep condolences to the families.
When Acting Leader Kwon appeared at Muan Airport, some family members of the victims protested, saying, “You arrived quickly,” and “This is the worst.” Amid raised voices, Acting Leader Kwon consoled some of the bereaved families. Kim Sang-hoon, the policy committee chair, alongside legislators Kim Mi-ae and Kim Eun-hye of the same party, were present. Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, visited Muan Airport the previous night to console the families.
