Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, visited the joint memorial altar for the victims of the Jeju Air passenger plane accident at Muan General Sports Park in South Jeolla Province on the 30th to lay flowers.
Lee and the Democratic Party leadership visited the joint memorial altar around 11:30 a.m. to lay flowers in silence and offered a moment of silence. In the guestbook, they wrote, "We wish peace for the souls of the disaster victims." They stayed at the altar for about 13 minutes.
The day before, Lee traveled from Seoul to Muan in the afternoon and met with the bereaved families at the airport to offer condolences. In the morning, at the on-site Supreme Council meeting at the Democratic Party's South Jeolla branch in Muan, he said, "I pray for the souls of those who lost their lives in the air disaster and hope for the quick recovery of the injured."
He continued, "What is most important right now is the accident resolution," adding, "Our party will do everything we can, focusing on the Air Disaster Countermeasure Committee." He also said, "Our party's countermeasure committee will stay on site to provide specific help needed by the affected families, and we will actively cooperate with the central government, South Jeolla Province, and Gwangju City."
