Lee Ju-ho, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, visited the site of the Jeju Air aircraft accident at Muan International Airport in South Jeolla province on the 29th and said, “We will do our best to support the victims' families.”

Deputy Prime Minister Lee told reporters at the accident site, which was visited along with Kim Dae-jung, the Superintendent of the South Jeolla Provincial Office of Education, “How can we put the families' grief into words,” adding, “Our central government, education office, and local government will work together to fully support the bereaved families.”

He also expressed, “It pains me that the excellent Deputy Directors of the South Jeolla Office of Education were victims,” and vowed to “make efforts for rapid identification.”

According to the Ministry of Education, Deputy Prime Minister Lee met with Superintendent Kim that afternoon to check the damage situation and comforted the bereaved family of the deceased employee from the South Jeolla Office of Education due to this accident.

Previously, the South Jeolla Office of Education announced that five employees and three students from the region, along with four students from Gwangju, were included on the passenger list of the Jeju Air aircraft involved in the accident.

On the morning of this day, an aircraft carrying 181 people collided with the airport's outer wall after landing at Muan International Airport in South Jeolla province. The aircraft involved was a B737-800, carrying a total of 181 people, including 175 passengers, comprised of 173 South Koreans and 2 Thais, and 6 crew members. So far, 2 people have been rescued from the tail of the aircraft, and 177 people have been confirmed dead.
