The families of passengers presumed dead in the Jeju Air plane crash on the 29th could not hide their grief. Some rushed to Muan International Airport after hearing the news of a friend's accident.
Mr. A said, “My daughter is 43 and was in an accident while returning from a trip to Thailand with friends.” He continued, “My youngest grandchild, who will enter elementary school next year, is being looked after at home by my wife.” He noted, “I last contacted my daughter last night, and she said, ‘I think I will arrive in Korea tomorrow morning.’ It turns out she was indeed on the crashed flight.” Mr. A stated, “I am too sad and shocked to speak.” His eyes were severely bloodshot.
Mr. Tae Nam-seok, 63, lamented, “My second daughter and son-in-law were on the same flight. They got married three years ago and haven’t even had a child yet…” Then he broke into tears. He noted, “Ten days ago, my daughter and son-in-law brought some salted cabbages and we made kimchi together. That was the last time I saw them.” He continued, “Now I have lost both my son-in-law and my daughter.”
Mr. Kim Seung-hwan, 52, noted, “I heard my friend was on the passenger list, and when I checked, it turned out to be true.” He said, “I rushed here from Gwangju.” Mr. Kim explained, “We have been friends since high school when we both moved from our hometown, Haenam, to Gwangju. My friend said on Christmas Eve, ‘I'm going to Thailand,’ and I replied, ‘We have all worked hard.’” He added, “I didn’t know that would be the last time we talked. It’s too overwhelming to believe.”
