A man in his 60s was arrested by the police for smashing a cell phone with a shovel inside a subway train in operation.

According to the police and Seoul Metro, a man in his 60s, identified as Mr. A, smashed his cell phone with a pre-purchased shovel inside a train heading from Sinjeong Station to Mok-dong Station on Seoul Subway Line 5 at around 10:30 a.m. on the 27th.

As the cell phone broke and smoke emerged, the train happened to arrive at Mok-dong Station. Nearby passengers threw the cell phone out of the train, quickly controlling the fire. Employees of Seoul Metro, including the Mok-dong stationmaster, were dispatched to the scene to conduct safety management.

It is reported that Mr. A was dragged out of the train by nearby passengers. Employees, including the Mok-dong stationmaster, handed Mr. A over to the arriving police, who arrested and are investigating Mr. A. The stationmaster later collected the cell phone debris and handed it over to the police. No personal injuries were reported.
