From next year, the management of drunk driving by Seoul taxi drivers will be strengthened.
Seoul city announced on the 25th that it will revise the 'Taxi Passenger Vehicle Transportation Business Improvement Order' and implement it from Jan. 1 next year. The revised bill includes the requirement for transport operators to record the alcohol level measurement results of their drivers and to submit them upon request by the mayor of Seoul. If violated, transport operators will face penalty surcharges (1st offense 1.2 million won, 2nd offense 2.4 million won, 3rd offense 3.6 million won) or partial business suspension (1st offense 20 days, 2nd offense 40 days, 3rd offense 60 days).
Taxi drivers will also be allowed to change shifts outside the designated parking areas. Previously, they could only change shifts at designated parking areas, which was inconvenient.
Seoul city revised the order after gathering opinions from the Corporate Taxi Association, the Private Taxi Association, the National Taxi Workers' Union, and the Korean Democratic Taxi Workers' Union. Individual notices will be sent to transport operators, and the information will be announced on the city's website within the year.
