The Ministry of Education announced on the 24th that it held the '2nd National Korean Language Olympiad' in collaboration with the Tashkent Korean Education Center and the Uzbekistan Ministry of General Education.
This competition was held on the 22nd at the Saykhontoghr Technical School in Uzbekistan. Having started last year, this marks the second year of the event. According to the Ministry of Education, this year's competition was organized and held nationwide for the first time in conjunction with the host country's government. Previously, the Tashkent Korean Education Center, an overseas educational institution, had held it independently.
A total of 1,262 students, recommended by school principals, participated in the preliminary round of this competition. After the preliminaries, 150 students proceeded to the finals. The exam was divided into sections including listening, reading, and writing, and was conducted over a total of 2 hours and 30 minutes.
As a result, the top prize, the Grand Prize, was awarded to Razmatova Diana from School No. 35 in Tashkent. Additionally, nine students received prizes such as the Excellence Award, the Achievement Award, and others. The awardees were provided with smart devices like laptops and smart pads for Korean language learning and the opportunity to participate in a cold-weather education program as prizes.
Karimov Sherzod, Vice Minister of the Uzbekistan Ministry of General Education, noted, "The interest in Korean language education in Uzbekistan is continuously increasing," and added, "With the hosting of this competition, we will cooperate with the government of the Republic of Korea to further expand Korean language education."
Won Do-yeon, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Uzbekistan, expressed hope that "this competition will serve as a great motivation for Uzbekistani students who wish to learn the Korean language and culture."
