The city of Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province, has decided to cancel the reservation for singer Lee Seung-hwan's 35th debut anniversary concert scheduled for the 25th.
According to Gumi City on the 23rd, Gumi Mayor Kim Jang-ho will announce an 'emergency statement' at 11 a.m. in the city hall's main conference room, stating that Lee Seung-hwan's concert, which was scheduled to be held at the Gumi Cultural and Arts Center on the 25th, will be canceled.
The city has completed the cancellation procedure for the reservation of Lee Seung-hwan's concert.
A city official said, "It seems the decision was inevitable for safety reasons due to concerns about physical clashes between the audience and conservative right-wing groups," and "the safety of citizens is the top priority."
Gumi city stated that it had unofficially informed Lee Seung-hwan's side about the possibility of the concert's cancellation last week while discussing safety issues.
Issues related to refunds and other returns for the concert will reportedly be handled through legal representatives later.
Singer Lee Seung-hwan, who publicly supported the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol, received demands from conservative right-wing groups to cancel the Gumi concert.
On the 20th, he posted that the concert to be held at the Gumi Cultural and Arts Center was practically sold out, saying, "It was the place with the worst ticket sales, but thank you. Thank you, audience members. Conservative right-wing groups."
The day before, through a law firm, he also posted, "I ask fans attending the concert not to respond at all to the scheduled rallies nearby."
