The Korean Peasants League (Jeonnong) is attempting to travel to Seoul on tractors and other vehicles, demanding the arrest of President Yoon Suk-yeol, as they face off against the police near Namtaeryeong Hill.
According to Jeonnong and the police on the 21st, about 30 tractors and 50 trucks belonging to Jeonnong attempted to enter Seoul via Gwacheon-daero around noon, resulting in a clash with the police near Namtaeryeong Hill in Seocho District. It is reported that 3 to 4 of these tractors have currently entered Seoul.
To block them, the police set up a vehicle barrier and are controlling both directions of Gwacheon-daero, causing severe congestion. It is known that citizens using city buses toward Seoul disembarked and moved on foot.
Jeonnong planned to march to Yongsan District's Hannam-dong presidential residence and the Gwanghwamun candlelight protest site, but the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency issued a 'restriction notice' the previous day, citing potential severe traffic disruptions.
Those who had departed from the Yeongnam and Honam regions previously held a rally in front of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs in the Government Complex Sejong on the 19th, condemning the exercise of the right to request re-deliberation on the agricultural 4 laws amendment, before arriving in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, the day before.
Jeonnong maintains that the police's decision severely infringes on the fundamental right to freedom of assembly and demonstration, insisting on proceeding with the march as planned.
