The Seoul Metropolitan Government initiated the first phase of emergency snow removal operations at 6 p.m. on the 20th. With a forecast of 1-5 cm of heavy snow from midnight on the 21st, plans are in place to deploy snow removal vehicles and equipment in advance to prepare for snowfall.
Seoul city detected early signs of snowfall through closed-circuit (CC) TV installed along the snowfall path in the western sea region. In response, before the snow begins, 5,295 personnel and 1,116 snow removal equipment units will be deployed, and snow removal chemicals will be spread to ensure prompt initial response and minimize inconvenience to citizens.
The city urged participation in clearing snow in front of individual homes and stores. Snow removal boxes placed in alleyways and steep areas are pre-stocked with snow removal chemicals and equipment for easy public access.
Caution is advised on main thoroughfares and in alleys near dwellings. As fallen snow accumulates, there is a risk of slipping accidents, so it's important to maintain sufficient safety distance when driving and to be cautious of slipping incidents.
Kim Seong-bo, head of the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Disaster and Safety Management Office, said, "We will prepare thoroughly to avoid inconvenience to citizens due to snowfall," and urged, "Since roads could freeze when snow falls with the temperature remaining low, please refrain from using private vehicles and actively use public transportation for safety."
