The Ministry of the Interior and Safety noted on the 20th that a 'heavy snow and cold wave response agency countermeasures meeting' was held, headed by Deputy Minister Lee Han-gyeong.
The meeting was convened in response to forecasts of a significant amount of snow nationwide until the 21st. The Korea meteorological Administration predicted that up to 10 cm of snow would fall in central regions including Seoul by the 21st. Additionally, up to 30 cm of snow was expected on Ulleungdo and Dokdo.
On the day of the meeting, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety communicated key management items to relevant agencies, including ◇ real-time monitoring of weather conditions, ◇ the activation of a proactive emergency response system, ◇ establishing emergency readiness posture, ◇ identifying facilities vulnerable to heavy snow damage, and ◇ strengthening road patrols.
Deputy Minister Lee noted, “Due to the unprecedented heavy snowfall in November, which caused significant damage, the government will thoroughly prepare for hazardous weather in close cooperation with relevant agencies. I urge the public to frequently check weather information and to prioritize safety by refraining from going out during hazardous weather forecasts.”
