It has been reported that a delivery autonomous robot violated a traffic signal and crossed a crosswalk, resulting in a collision with a passenger car in Songdo, Incheon.
According to the robot operator and internet community on the 18th, a delivery autonomous robot and a passenger car collided at a crosswalk in Songdo-dong, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, around 8:40 a.m. on the 3rd.
There were no injuries from the accident, but the vehicle's headlamp and door were partially damaged.
The vehicle driver noted on an internet community, “I waited because there were people jaywalking despite the crosswalk signal being red, and while departing again, I collided with the jaywalking robot.” The driver claimed, “After the accident, the robot, under remote control by the company, scratched the vehicle again, causing secondary damage.”
The driver lamented, “The operator claims that the robot holds pedestrian status, asserting the driver's fault, and it is unfair to claim that I am at fault for not avoiding the robot, which darted onto the roadway by jaywalking.”
The driver later deleted the post, stating, “Both sides amicably agreed not to cause further disputes,” but the accident news spread primarily through social media (SNS).
A representative of the robot operator related, “The delivery robot does not move across a crosswalk if the signal is not green while autonomous driving,” and explained, “The accident occurred in the process of remote control when the operator saw that people were all crossing the crosswalk.”
The representative emphasized, “We have amicably agreed with the vehicle owner,” and noted, “Since the pilot service began last September, the delivery robot has not caused a single accident.”
