The government declared seven cities and counties, and four towns and villages, as special disaster areas on the 18th, following damage from heavy snow, strong winds, and high waves last month.
The cities and counties designated as disaster areas include Pyeongtaek, Yongshin, Icheon, Anseong, Hwaseong, Yeoju in Gyeonggi Province, along with Eumseong in North Chungcheong Province. The towns and villages are Anheung-myeon and Dunnae-myeon in Hoengseong County, Gangwon Province, and Seonghwan-eup and Ipjang-myeon in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province.
The areas included in this disaster designation suffered damage to agricultural facilities due to heavy snowfall of more than 40 centimeters in a day between Nov. 26 and 28.
For regions declared disaster areas, a portion of the restoration costs initially borne by local governments will be converted to national funds, thereby reducing the financial burden. Additionally, disaster support funds, deferrals of national and local government tax payments, and reductions in public utility fees will provide further indirect benefits to affected residents.
Acting Minister of the Interior and Safety, Ko Ki-dong, noted, “The government will promptly finalize the recovery plans and do its best in cooperation with relevant agencies and local governments to ensure the support proceeds smoothly.”
