The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced the appointment of Hwang Bo-yeon, former head of the Seoul Economic Policy Office, as president of the Seoul Energy Corporation effective on the 18th. The term will be three years starting this day.
The new president, Hwang, born in 1966, graduated from the department of public administration at Korea University. Subsequently, Hwang obtained a master's in economics from the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom and a doctorate in transportation engineering from the University of Seoul. Hwang served as head of the climate and environment headquarters, director of the urban transportation office, and head of the economic policy office within the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government noted about the new president, Hwang, that Hwang is "a figure with strategic planning ability and field experience who has successfully pushed forward the city's core policies, including climate and energy transition policies and the expansion of renewable energy distribution."
President Hwang said, "I will practice management that prioritizes citizen safety and prepare a sustainable growth foundation for the corporation through financial soundness," adding, "I will do my best to ensure that the Seoul Energy Corporation can leap forward as a trustworthy public enterprise that enriches citizens' lives at the center of energy transition."
Meanwhile, the Seoul Energy Corporation is a local public corporation under the Seoul Metropolitan Government established in 2016 to supply eco-friendly energy within Seoul. The president is appointed by the mayor of Seoul. However, the position had been vacant for five months following the voluntary resignation of the former president, Lee Seung-hyun, in July, leaving a year and six months on the term.
