The Korea meteorological Administration forecast that snow and rain will begin in Jeju and the West Sea on the afternoon of the 17th and continue in places until the 19th. Cold winds from the north are expected to maintain cold wave conditions throughout the week.

According to the Korea meteorological Administration, the Korean Peninsula is under the influence of a cold continental high pressure expanding from northern China. As the cold air passes over the relatively warm West Sea, cloud bands are formed due to the sea-air temperature difference. These cloud bands will move from the northwest to the southeast of the Korean Peninsula, bringing snow and rain temporarily starting this afternoon in Jeju and the West Sea, then moving to Chungcheong, Jeolla, Gyeongbuk, and Gangwon. The Korea meteorological Administration noted, “There may be icy roads and black ice, so please pay attention to traffic safety.”

The expected snowfall over two days (18-19th) is 10-30 cm in Ulleungdo and Dokdo, 5-15 cm in the mountainous areas of Jeju, 3-10 cm in the southern coastal and mountainous areas of Gangwon, the western coast of Jeonbuk, and the inland of southern Jeonbuk, and 1-5 cm in the western coast of Chungnam, Gwangju, the western part of Jeonnam, and the northern coastal areas of Gyeongbuk. The expected precipitation is 10-30 mm in Ulleungdo and Dokdo, 5-20 mm in Jeju, 5-10 mm in the southern coastal and mountainous areas of Gangwon, the western coast of Jeonbuk, and the inland of southern Jeonbuk, and around 5 mm in the western coast of Chungnam, Gwangju, the western part of Jeonnam, and the northern coastal areas of Gyeongbuk.

The morning low temperatures for the day are predicted to range from minus 9 degrees Celsius to 4 degrees Celsius, and the afternoon highs from 2 to 10 degrees Celsius. The temperatures for major regions are Seoul (minus 3 degrees and 3 degrees Celsius), Daejeon (minus 2 degrees and 5 degrees Celsius), Chuncheon (minus 9 degrees and 4 degrees Celsius), Gwangju (1 degree and 7 degrees Celsius), Daegu (minus 1 degree and 7 degrees Celsius), and Jeju (8 degrees and 12 degrees Celsius). On the morning of the 18th, the low temperatures are expected to drop to between minus 12 degrees and 1 degree Celsius, with afternoon highs ranging from minus 1 degree to 7 degrees Celsius.
