The Emergency Action for the Immediate Resignation of Yoon Seok-youl and Social Reform (Emergency Action for Resignation) on the 17th said, "There has been no detention of the traitor Yoon Seok-youl yet," and urged that "the Joint Investigation Headquarters (Joint Headquarters) must promptly arrest and detain Yoon Seok-youl."
The Emergency Action for Resignation held a press conference near the presidential residence in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, this morning and made this statement. This group was formed by over 1,500 civic organizations, including the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions and the People's Solidarity for Participatory Democracy. The Joint Headquarters is a cooperative investigation body composed of the Korean National Police Agency, the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials, and the Ministry of National Defense Investigation Headquarters.
The Emergency Action for Resignation said, "Securing the physical custody of Yoon Seok-youl and related parties is essential for the special prosecutor to conduct a proper investigation," adding, "Prompt custody and forcible investigation are the ways to prevent evidence destruction occurring at the presidential office and residence at this moment." Regarding the prosecution, the group said, "Pretending to conduct a strict investigation all of a sudden is a blatant deception of the people," and added, "They must immediately stop unilateral investigations and cooperate with the investigations of other agencies."
Yang Kyung-soo, the Chairperson of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, said, "A thorough investigation must be conducted quickly through a special prosecutor," adding, "Separation from society should be urgently implemented as a priority." Yoon Bok-nam, the Chairperson of the Lawyers for a Democratic Society, remarked, "A destroyer of constitutional governance deserves to be stripped of presidential courtesies."
The Constitutional Court, which investigates the impeachment trial against President Yoon, is supposed to have nine judges, but currently only has six. For the court to decide on impeachment, at least six judges must agree, so if even one judge opposes, the impeachment is dismissed. Kwon Seong-dong, the acting representative and floor leader of the People Power Party, said that Acting President Han Duck-soo cannot appoint a constitutional court judge until the court accepts the impeachment motion.
Lee Seung-hoon, the operations chairperson of the Citizen's Coalition for Economic Justice, who hosted the press conference, said, "Acting Kwon Seong-dong is once again confirming that the People Power Party is an accomplice in treason." He also criticized the Presidential Security Service for requiring the press conference to be held 500 meters away, stating that according to the "Assembly and Demonstration Act," gatherings can be held 100 meters from the presidential residence.
