North Korean media reported on March 16, two days after South Korea's National Assembly passed the impeachment motion of President Yoon Seok-youl on March 14, along with news of investigations by the military and police regarding the martial law situation in South Korea.
Korean Central News Agency reported that day, without further commentary, that “the impeachment motion against puppet Yoon Seok-youl was passed on March 14 in South Korea” and that “the presidential powers of puppet Yoon Seok-youl have been suspended.”
The agency explained that the impeachment motion against President Yoon was voted on by the National Assembly on 7th, but it was thwarted due to the collective walkout of People Power Party lawmakers.
It argued, “Rushed puppet Yoon Seok-youl staged a fraudulent drama on March 12 by announcing a statement woven with lies and absurdity, shifting the responsibility for martial law capriciousness onto the opposition party and other threats, and desecrated the extensive impeachment struggle of the masses as a frenzied sword dance, causing even more fierce backlash and anger from political and social circles.”
Additionally, the agency stated that following the arrests of South Korea's Minister of National Defense, the commissioner of the Korean National Police Agency, and the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency chief, Army Chief of Staff, Defense Security Command, Special Warfare Command, and Intelligence Command, who were appointed as martial law commanders, have all been suspended from duty. It added that “investigations are deepening into puppet Yoon Seok-youl, the chief of rebellion, and accomplices.”
The report on the passing of President Yoon's impeachment motion was also published in Rodong Sinmun, the Workers' Party's official newspaper read by North Korean residents. The newspaper placed the impeachment report on page 6, which covers external news.
In December 2016, when the impeachment motion against former President Park Geun-hye was passed by the National Assembly, North Korea also reported the event on the day the motion was passed.
