The Korea meteorological Administration forecasted on the 16th that snow and rain would occur in various parts of the country until the 18th. A cold wave, with morning temperatures below zero, is expected to continue as the severe cold of the winter general persists.
Due to the influence of a pressure trough approaching from near Bohai Bay, snow and rain are expected in the western regions starting late afternoon. The Korea meteorological Administration noted, “However, the east coast will be dry, so there should be caution regarding forest fires.”
The expected snowfall over two days (16-17th) is 1-5 cm in southern Gyeonggi, Seohae 5 Islands, southern inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon, Chungcheong, inland areas of North Jeolla, northern inland areas of North Gyeongsang, and mountain areas of Jeju, and 1 cm in other areas such as Seoul. The expected precipitation is 5 mm in southern Gyeonggi, Seohae 5 Islands, southern inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon, Chungcheong, the western coast of South Jeolla, North Jeolla, and Jeju, and 1 mm in areas such as Seoul.
The expected snowfall on the 18th is 5-20 cm in Ulleungdo and Dokdo, 3-10 cm in the western coast of North Jeolla and the southern inland of North Jeolla, and 1-5 cm in the western coast of South Chungcheong, Gwangju, the western area of South Jeolla, and mountainous areas of Jeju. The expected precipitation is 5-20 mm in Ulleungdo and Dokdo, 5-10 mm on the western coast and southern inland of North Jeolla, and 5 mm in Gwangju, the western area of South Jeolla, and the western coast of South Chungcheong.
The morning low temperatures will maintain between minus 9 degrees Celsius to 4 degrees from today until the 17th, then drop to minus 12 degrees to 0 degrees on the 18th. The daytime high temperatures are expected to be 3-11 degrees today, 1-10 degrees on the 17th, and from minus 1 degree to 7 degrees on the 18th. The major regional temperatures include Seoul (minus 3 degrees, 4 degrees), Daejeon (minus 3 degrees, 6 degrees), Chuncheon (minus 9 degrees, 4 degrees), and Daegu (minus 1 degree, 7 degrees).
