The Seoul City Council's Special Committee on Budget and Accounts announced on the 13th that it has approved with amendments the 2025 budget proposal and fund operation plan submitted by Seoul City.

The revised Seoul city budget for the next year approved by the committee on this day totals 48 trillion 114.4 billion won. This is an increase of 737 billion won from the budget proposal (48 trillion 40.7 billion won) previously submitted by Seoul City to the City Council.

The committee cut 532.3 billion won, including 10 billion won for COVID-19 vaccination costs and 11.141 billion won for the general accounts reserve fund, and increased 606.1 billion won, including 5.8 billion won for protective fence installation and 4 billion won for financial support for village buses, a means of transportation for ordinary citizens. The size of the fund operation plan remains unchanged.

On the same day, the committee approved with amendments the budget for the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education for the next year to 1 trillion 802.6 billion won.

The City Council reduced a total of 131.2 billion won, including 54.3 billion won for the smart device distribution project cost and 66.4 billion won for civil servant personnel expenses, considering social concerns about digital education policies. It increased 123.6 billion won, including 91.1 billion won for school facility environment improvement projects.

Choi Min-kyu of the People Power Party, the chairman of the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts of the Seoul City Council, said to the city and the Office of Education, "So that next year's budget can have a tangible impact on people’s livelihoods, please prepare thoroughly from now so that the budget can be executed simultaneously with the start of the fiscal year on Jan. 1."
