In Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi Province, the climate travel card, an unlimited public transportation pass for Seoul, will be available as early as next summer. Uijeongbu is the 10th local government in the metropolitan area to join the climate travel card project, following Incheon, Gimpo, Gwacheon, Goyang, Namyangju, and Guri.

Oh Se-hoon, the Seoul mayor, and Kim Dong-geun, the Uijeongbu mayor, signed an agreement on November 11 for Uijeongbu to participate in the climate travel card project with Seoul. Both sides agreed to make the climate travel card usable from as early as next summer on five Line 1 subway stations in Uijeongbu (Mangwolsa, Hoehyeon, Uijeongbu, Ganeung, and Nogyang) and all Uijeongbu light rail lines. The Jangam Station on Line 7 in Uijeongbu and the eight city bus routes with Seoul licenses passing through Uijeongbu are already compatible with the climate travel card.

Uijeongbu is consolidated to Seoul's major downtown areas by subway lines 1 and 7. Both sides believe the climate travel card agreement will ease citizens' mobility and promote balanced regional development.

The climate travel card is a public transportation pass allowing unlimited rides on the Seoul subway and buses for around 60,000 won a month. Since its launch last January, over 5 million cards have been sold. A Seoul city official noted, “It is expected to broadly consolidate Seoul and the northern part of Gyeonggi.”
