Korea AeroSpace Administration said on the 6th that it held the "24th Korea Robotic Aircraft Competition" at the Air Force Education and Training Command in Jinju, South Gyeongsang, on the 5th.
Eighty teams took part in this year's competition. The teams went through two preliminary rounds and were evaluated on system development level, autonomous flight technology, mission performance capability, and safety devices.
In the regular division, a rescue mission for a distressed person using a vertical takeoff and landing fixed-wing advanced air mobility (AAM) aircraft was carried out. Inha University's DOK4 team received the grand prize, the Korea AeroSpace Administration Administrator's Award, and Hanseo University's HACUS team won the top excellence award. Cheongju University's Falcon team and Korea Aerospace University's FDCL team each received an excellence award. The DOK4 team won the grand prize for receiving high marks in the process of carrying out the rescue mission.
In the intermediate division, teams were given an indoor search mission for a distressed person using a multicopter-type drone. Chungbuk National University's SUV lab team won the top excellence award, Inha University's IRRIS team won an excellence award, and Konkuk University's ASEC BRAVO team received an encouragement award.
O Tae-seok, head of the Korea AeroSpace Administration, said, "I expect that the participating students will be able to build capabilities in the space and aviation field through the experience of directly designing and manufacturing aircraft and performing real missions."
