Hallym University Medical Center said on the 1st that Lee Jae-joon, head of Hallym University Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital, took office as the 21st medical center president. The term runs through Aug. 31, 2028. With the inauguration as medical center president, Lee will also serve concurrently as Hallym University executive vice president for medical affairs.
The new president's specialty is anesthesiology and pain medicine. Lee graduated from Hallym University College of Medicine in 2000, earned a master's degree at the same university's graduate school, and received a doctorate at Kangwon National University Graduate School. Since 2016, Lee has served as hospital director for about 10 years, leading efforts to strengthen essential regional medical care, improve the quality of medical services, and expand research and development capabilities.
In particular, under the belief that "the future of the hospital is research," Lee established the New Frontier Research Institute in 2018 and began full-scale advanced future medicine research in medical artificial intelligence (AI), genomics, and big data. Based on this, the center carried out multiple national research and development projects and achieved R&D results such as a preterm birth prediction AI model and a remote multidisciplinary consultation platform for cerebral hemorrhage. Hallym University Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital was selected as the Ministry of Health and Welfare's "Phase 1 certified research-driven hospital" for 2025, the first medical institution in Gangwon Province to be chosen.
Lee said, "Based on the experience built in clinical settings and hospital management capabilities, I will bring together the strengths of the five affiliated hospitals and further strengthen cooperation and synergy in care, research, and education."
On the same day, Hallym University Medical Center also announced appointments for affiliated hospital directors. Cho Jae-ho, a professor of orthopedic surgery at Hallym University Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital, took office as the 23rd director of Hallym University Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital. Kim Hyeong-su, head of Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital (cardiothoracic surgery), Lee Dong-jin, head of Hallym University Kangnam Sacred Heart Hospital (otolaryngology), Heo Jun, head of Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital (burn surgery), and Han Seong-woo, head of Hallym University Dongtan Sacred Heart Hospital (cardiology), were each reappointed.
