Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) will join discussions on international standards and open-source technologies related to Agentic artificial intelligence (AI).
The Ministry of Science and ICT said on the 25th that ETRI has joined the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF) under the Linux Foundation. ETRI will take part in activities through the Ministry of Science and ICT's support program for developing information and communications and broadcasting standards.
AAIF is an organization launched in December last year to develop Agentic AI technologies and promote international cooperation. About 250 institutions and corporations, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google, Microsoft, Anthropic, OpenAI, and Mistral AI, are members. In Korea, NHN KCP, Danal, Nexus, and Lablup are on the roster.
ETRI plans to take part in discussions on key specifications related to Agentic AI, including the Model Context Protocol (MCP). MCP is an open protocol for linking AI models with external data, tools, and applications.
The government plans to use this to participate in related discussions so that domestic research and development achievements can be reflected in international standards and to broaden cooperation channels with overseas institutions.
Park Tae-wan, director general for information and communication industry policy at the Ministry of Science and ICT, said, "We expect ETRI's participation in AAIF to help connect the research achievements of Korea's industry, academia, and research institutes with international technology discussions."
