Oscotec(039200) built a platform that analyzes, with artificial intelligence (AI), how cancer cells develop resistance to anticancer drugs to identify new therapies.
Oscotec said on the 25th that it named its anti-resistance anticancer AI screening platform "RIVENDELL" and completed a trademark application.
In cancer treatment, resistance is one of the major causes of treatment failure. Cancer cells that initially respond to a drug can change over time to evade its effects, making treatment difficult.
Rivendell observes, at the single-cell level, how cancer cells acquire resistance to existing anticancer drugs, and uses AI to analyze the images and data accumulated in the process.
It then searches and screens large numbers of candidate compounds to find new therapeutic targets and candidates that can block cancer cell resistance.
Oscotec plans to use Rivendell to discover new drug candidates that can be used alongside existing standard cancer therapies. It will also review the potential for drug repurposing to find new uses for already developed medicines.
Oscotec earlier in May established a core technology team within its research institute and began building the platform. It also hired Dr. Regis Grailhe, who led drug discovery platform research at the Institut Pasteur Korea for more than 10 years.
