Hanul Nuclear Power Plant Unit 4 automatically shut down on the morning of the 19th, prompting the nuclear safety authorities to begin identifying the cause.
The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission said it received a report from Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co. (KHNP) at about 8:50 a.m. that Hanul Unit 4 had automatically shut down.
After the automatic shutdown, Hanul Unit 4 was determined to be maintaining a stable condition. So far, no abnormal alarms from radiation monitors have occurred, and no external release of radioactive materials has been confirmed, the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission said.
The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission is checking the on-site situation and safety status through the Hanul Nuclear Power Plant regional office. It also plans to form an investigation team of experts from the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety (KINS) and dispatch them to the site.
