Celltrion(068270) said on the 14th that a study on Vegzelma, which treats breast cancer and metastatic colorectal cancer, was published in an international journal. Vegzelma is a biosimilar of Roche's Avastin from Switzerland.
Celltrion analyzed serum concentrations from 843 participants in phase 1 and phase 3 trials of Vegzelma. The results showed no difference from the original drug in the process by which the medication is absorbed and acts in the body. Phase 1 involved healthy volunteers, and phase 3 involved patients with Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who were not stratified.
This is an industry-academia collaboration conducted with a research team led by Professor Jang Min-jung at Yonsei University. The findings were published in the biotechnology journal "BioDrugs." A Celltrion official said, "We will enhance trust in product prescriptions by securing clinical data."
Vegzelma received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2022. According to IQVIA, Vegzelma recorded an 11% market share in the United States in May. Its market share in Japan was 64% as of March.
