Kim Do-gyeong, an emeritus professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at KAIST, was selected as the 11th principal of the Korea Science Academy of KAIST.
KAIST's board of trustees said on the 11th that it held a special board meeting at the Daejeon main campus and selected Kim, the emeritus professor, as the new principal. The new principal, Kim, will be appointed by the KAIST president after approval by the Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT. The term is four years.
After graduating from Seoul National University, the new principal, Kim, earned his master's and doctoral degrees at KAIST. He joined KAIST as a professor in 1994 and served as dean of academic affairs, admissions director, head of the Nano-Convergence Research Institute, and head of the International Student Support Center, among other roles. During his tenure as admissions director, he worked in the selection and education of science and technology talent, including participating in the introduction of an admissions officer model that used in-depth interviews.
The new principal, Kim, is expected to begin fully participating in school operations starting in the second semester of the 2026 academic year.
