Shaperon(378800) said on the 5th that it received a decision to register a patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for the formulation of its atopic dermatitis treatment candidate "Nugel." Once formal registration is completed, the company will have protection for the formulation patent in the United States until 2042.
The company said it expects the new patent, together with existing GPCR19 platform-related patents, to strengthen global intellectual property (IP) competitiveness and help with technology transfer and co-development negotiations.
Nugel is a topical atopic treatment candidate in development as a positive allosteric modulator (PAM) targeting GPCR19. In phase 2b, the primary endpoint (EASI) did not achieve significance versus placebo, but the secondary endpoint, IGA-TS, showed an improvement trend.
In response, the company said it plans to discuss with regulators switching IGA-TS to the primary endpoint in subsequent trials.
